A family-run broadacre farm near Ongerup, Western Australia, growing canola, wheat and barley and offering seasonal employment opportunities.
Whitegum Farming is a family-owned broadacre cropping farm located 40 kilometres south of Ongerup in Western Australia. We farm approximately 5,000 hectares and are entirely cropping-based, growing canola, wheat, and barley.
Our regular team includes one full-time employee, with up to four casual employees joining us during the busy seeding and harvest periods. The farm is located within reach of the beautiful Stirling Range and other scenic areas of southern Western Australia, giving staff the opportunity to explore the region during their time off.
We employ casual staff during our busy seeding and harvest periods, as well as for other jobs throughout the year.
During seeding, roles may include machinery operators, spreader operators and rock picking. During harvest, we employ header operators and chaser bin operators. Other work may include machinery operation for paddock cleaning and maintenance, drainage projects and paddock claying.
Staff accommodation is provided in modern, self-contained quarters. Each person has a private motel-style room with their own ensuite, with shared kitchen and living areas.
The farm is in a rural area, about 40 kilometres south of Ongerup. Staff should expect a quiet country setting and will generally need their own vehicle to get around or can on occasions use work vehicles.
Ongerup has basic services, and the larger towns of Albany and Katanning are both 150km away. On days off, there are a number of places to visit in the wider region, including the Stirling Range National Park, Bremer Bay and other parts of southern Western Australia.
Life on the farm is fairly relaxed outside work hours, with shared living areas available in the staff accommodation. During seeding and harvest, work can be busy and the days can be long, so most people use their time off to rest, explore the area or head into town.
